Kerber back to no.2, Halep no.5

After a curious week in Madrid where most top players crashed out in the early stages of the tournament, we have some upheavals in the rankings.

Kerber

Angelique and Agnieszka Radwanska keep on swapping places. This week is Kerber to take over the 2nd spot in the rankings even if she crashed out in the opener in Madrid.

Halep

Simona won the title in Madrid to gain two places in the rankings and be the new world no.5. Even if the Romanian hasn’t beaten any top player on her way to the title, her morale must be pretty high after her latest title.

Bacsinszky

Timea crashes out in the 3rd round in Madrid, but that was enough for her to get back in the top10.

Cibulkova

Dominika played a great tournament in Madrid to reach the final. Her performance in Spain helped her to gain 12 places and be ranked no.26.

Chirico

The American has been the big surprise of the week. The last time that Louisa played in a main draw was when she was annihilated 6-0 6-0 by Petra Kvitova in Stuttgart. Chirico has managed to reach the semifinal in Madrid coming straight from the qualifications before losing to Dominika Cibulkova. After last week, Louisa gains 54 positions in the rankings to be the new world no. 76. More to come.
