Days before starting his US Open defence, Novak Djokovic had an injury scare that required him to shorten Friday’s training session with Holger Rune. After receiving treatment, the Serb has reportedly been unable to continue training at Flushing Meadows due to some discomfort.
On Friday afternoon, thousands of spectators swept upon Arthur Ashe Stadium to watch the 24-time Grand Slam champion work through some of his last preparations with Rune.
Rune exited the court without giving pictures and autographs to the disappointed crowd, but after thirty minutes, Djokovic was nowhere to be found.
Given that Djokovic’s bags and squad were ready and waiting on the Arthur Ashe court, there was some confusion regarding his non-attendance.
Though it’s unclear how serious Djokovic’s injury is, Rune made sure fans weren’t left feeling let down by throwing balls into the crowd before leaving. Additionally, it will be hoped that Djokovic’s training niggle doesn’t worsen before or after his US Open campaign starts.
