Kei Nishikori wins an extremely complicated match in Madrid against Nick Kyrgios after being just two points away from defeat. There was just one break in the entire match, and that was in the 4th game of the decider when the Australian dropped his serve at 30. The encounter ended after 2 hours and 39 minutes 6-7(6), 7-6(1), 6-3.

Nishikori. Poor break point conversion was a problem

The Japanese was extremely happy for the win, but he wasn’t satisfied with his break point conversion rate (1 to 8) “I thought it was a great match. I think he served really well. Even though I had many opportunities in the first and second sets; many break points, I couldn’t convert. If I could play better on those important point maybe, I could finish in two sets. It was two tough tie-breaks, but I tried to play maybe a little more aggressive in second set. I thought I returned better in the third set. I was seeing his serve a little better. It was a really tough match, so I am very happy to win today.”

The semifinal against Djokovic

Nishikori will play the semifinal against Novak Djokovic that has dismissed Raonic 6-3 6-4 in the quarters. The head to head is 7-2 for the world no.1 that has won the last six matches.

Nishikori back to down Kyrgios 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
