Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, announced on social media on Wednesday that she underwent surgery on her left shoulder.
After losing in the first round at the All England Club on July 2, the Czech left-hander has not participated in any competitions. After losing her opening match at Wimbledon the following year, Vondrousova became the first women’s champion since 1994, when she was defeated 6-4, 6-2 by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro at Centre Court.
Vondrousova became the first female champion from the unseeded bracket at the grass-court Grand Slam event last year after winning the title there.
Vondrousova pulled out of the U.S. Open, which starts in New York on Monday, and the Olympics in Paris.

Now ranked no.22, Marketa played her last match on the 2nd of July when she was overcome by world no.80 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4 6-2 in the 1st round in Wimbledon (draw).
This season the Czech owns a composed 16-11 win-loss record. Marketa Vondrousova’s best result of this season was reaching the semifinal in Stuttgart.
