Bernard Tomic was recently ejected from the stands of the RD Open in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for heckling his opponent, Andres Andrade, who had defeated him two days earlier in the tournament. Tomic, a former world No. 17 now ranked No. 250, lost to Andrade in the quarterfinals in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In an unexpected turn of events, Tomic returned to the venue during the final, where Andrade faced Damir Dzumhur. Tomic reportedly moved around the stands to remain close to Andrade, disrupting the match with his heckling. The disruption led to tournament officials confronting Tomic and removing him from the stands during the second set, a move that was met with applause from the crowd.

Andrade, visibly disturbed by Tomic’s actions, requested that the heckler be removed. The chair umpire assured Andrade that Tomic had been ejected and would not return. Despite this incident, Andrade ultimately lost the final to Dzumhur, 6-4, 6-4.

This incident is the latest in a series of controversial moments in Tomic’s career, which has seen a sharp decline from his earlier promise. Once regarded as a potential Grand Slam champion, Tomic’s ranking has plummeted, and he has not been in the top 100 since 2019. His current record on the Challenger Tour stands at 12-13 for the year.

In addition to his poor performance, Tomic’s behavior on and off the court has raised concerns. Earlier this year, he withdrew mid-match from a tournament in Arkansas after an argument with his girlfriend. His last tournament victory was at a minor ITF event in Chennai, India, in January.

Tomic’s recent actions and struggles highlight the ongoing challenges in his career, which has been marked by erratic behavior and unmet potential.
