Roger Federer and David Goffin faced each other in the finals of the Noventi Open for the 9th time of their career.
Roger Federer has won the Halle Open for the 10th time (He won it for the first time in the year 2000 as an 18-year old) and will now head to the Wimbledon with loads of confidence. He has already won Wimbledon 8 times and now fresh from a Halle win, will be good to go for the 9th title.
The 37-year-old and world no.3 beat Belgium’s David Goffin, 7-6(2) 6-1 in 1 hour and 23 minutes.
With this win, Federer has now 102 career titles, 19 of these titles have come on grass. Federer, ranked No. 3 in the world, has now won 102 career titles.
The Match
In the first set, Federer had to work hard. He was down 0-40 in the 5th game but was able to hold on his serve to lead 3-2. Again in the 7th game, Federer was down 0-30 but again managed to hold on to his serve and lead 4-3. Both the players hold on to their serves till the 12th game to level at 6-6. The set was decided in favour of Federer in the tiebreaker, he was aggressive and took a 5-1 lead in the tiebreaker and then won it on his service.
The Belgian started badly in the second set after he lost his opening service to the Swiss. The Swiss broke Goffin’s serve again to take a 4-1 lead. He won the second set easily 6-1.
With this win Federer took home €429,955, he also got better by 500 ATP ranking points.
