Félix Auger-Aliassime has demonstrated amazing sportsmanship in this ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati 2024, remaining cool under pressure as was the case with Jack Draper and the contentious decision that has garnered international attention.
The Canadian player expressed on social media that he wanted to figure out how to handle these kinds of situations so they wouldn’t happen again after taking the appropriate time for reflection.
In the third set, Draper served at 5-4 to secure a trip to the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals. The British No. 1 took the ball for a drop shot with a 40-30 lead. However, it seemed as though he struck the ground with it before it crossed the net.
Eventually, Auger-Aliassime shook hands with the 22-year-old and conceded the match. He has now addressed the incident in a post on X, two days later.
He wrote: “Unfortunate ending of my tournament here in Cincinnati but I hope we find a way to deal with these situations in a more objective way going forward. That being said, I’m still encouraged by the level I played this week leading into the last Grand Slam of the year. Time to move on and focus on my preparation for the US Open. See you in NY.”
