Ben Shelton has thought back on his recent rise to prominence in men’s tennis. The 2023 US Open semifinalist has also acknowledged that he and his father Bryan, a former top-100 player on the ATP tour in both singles and doubles, have talked about it often.

Shelton, who is currently competing in the Cincinnati Open this year, told in a recent interview that he and Bryan often discuss how quickly he has matured. The young player’s admission followed his first-round victory over fellow countryman Reilly Opelka, 7-6(3), 7-6(3).

Shelton talked about it and said: “Me and my dad have this conversation a lot. It’s crazy to think about how far we’ve come and how much more room we have for growth. I’m not where I want to be, doing the things that I want to do yet, but I know I have room for improvement.”

The world No. 14 continued by thanking his teammates for helping him develop and asserting that he has the work ethic required to improve even further.

He added: “I have the work ethic to get better and I have a great team in place, so I’m excited with what I’ve been able to accomplish, I think that we have a lot more work to do, but I’m happy with the position that I’m in and the experiences that I’ve been able to have.”
