Cameron Norrie, currently ranked 47th in the ATP rankings, has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming US Open due to a lingering forearm injury. In a brief statement on Instagram, Norrie expressed his disappointment, stating, “I have been working hard to get my body to full health, unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped. Therefore, I will not be able to compete in this year’s US Open. I’ll take some rest and recharge. Can’t wait to get back to competing like a dog.”

Norrie’s withdrawal comes just over a week before the start of the tournament, marking the latest in a series of setbacks for British tennis this season. The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) responded with a supportive message, hoping for his swift return to the court. Argentine Francisco Comesana is set to replace Norrie in the tournament’s main draw.

This injury follows a challenging year for Norrie, who has already missed key events, including the Olympics and the Canadian Masters. His absence at the US Open leaves Dan Evans and Jack Draper as the sole British representatives in the men’s singles draw at Flushing Meadows. Despite claiming an ATP Tour title earlier in 2023, Norrie has faced difficulties maintaining form, with a semi-final exit at the Rio ATP 500 and a third-round defeat at Wimbledon against Alexander Zverev being the highlights of an otherwise trying season.

Norrie’s injury adds to the growing list of injury-related disruptions for British players, including Andy Murray’s retirement from professional tennis following a series of injuries. As Norrie takes time to recover, the British tennis community will look forward to his return to full fitness and competition.
