Barty beats Strycova to reach the finals in Birmingham

Barty reaches the finals

Ashleigh Barty and Barbora Strycova clashed with each other in the semifinal of the Nature Valley Classic for the 4th time in their careers.

Ashleigh Barty, the French Open champion is just one win away from becoming the first Australian to be the world no.1 in 43 years. If she wins the Birmingham tournament then she will be the no.1 player in the world.

Barty beat Barbora Strycova 6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 24 minutes in the semifinals in Birmingham. It will be the third final for the Australian this season and she will also have the opportunity to extend her winning streak to 11.

The Match

In course to the victory, the 23-year-old hit 11 aces, she also hit 24 winners in the match.

In the first set, Barty earned 1 break and that slight edge in the match was enough to win the entire set 6-4.

In the 2nd set again, 1 break was enough to win the set 6-4.

Barty is doing great this season and if she wins, it will be her third tournament win this season.

When asked if she is thinking of the final match, she said: “I keep it very simple. I don’t focus on them at all. They are things I can’t control necessarily, “I have to try and do what I can do and that is to prepare and do as best that I can tomorrow and try and play a good tennis match and if I win, it’s a bonus.

“They are all things that come with it. But those things are certainly not what I’m worried about.

“It is not going to change the way that I sleep at night if I don’t get there or not. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”

She will face Julia Goerges in the finals of the tournament.
