Andreeva Talks About Struggling On Hard Courts

Mirra Andreeva, a rising star in the tennis world, is quickly establishing herself as a formidable talent. Despite her youth, the Russian prodigy has impressed both fans and critics alike with her recent performances, including a strong showing at the Cincinnati Masters. However, while Andreeva’s skills on the court are undeniable, she has candidly shared her struggles with playing on hard courts and adapting to the pressures of competing on larger stages.

In a recent interview following her second-round victory over Karolína Pliskova, Andreeva expressed her evolving relationship with hard courts. “Honestly, I really like the courts now. They are fast but they are soft, and I feel very, very comfortable playing on them,

” she remarked, highlighting her growing confidence on this surface. Despite her satisfaction with the playing conditions, Andreeva voiced a minor disappointment about not being scheduled to play on a show court. Reflecting on her match against Pliskova, she noted, “Even though I was hoping to play on a bigger court, court No. 10 was amazing as well. So yeah, it was just amazing energy out there today.”

Andreeva’s comments reveal a young athlete navigating the complexities of high-level competition. While she had previously enjoyed playing on a larger court in her first-round match against Emma Navarro, her placement on an outside court for the following round was unexpected. This shift in venue comes after her experience at the French Open, where she faced Aryna Sabalenka on the prestigious Court Philippe-Chatrier in the quarterfinals.

“I was very nervous before the match, as it’s the first time for me when I’m playing on a big court,” Andreeva admitted. She acknowledged the mental and emotional challenges that come with performing on such a grand stage, saying, “I kind of expected the crowd will be cheering for her, and she will have a little advantage mental-wise and game-wise.”

Despite these challenges, Andreeva’s recent success indicates her growing confidence and ability to adapt. As she prepares for her next match against Jasmine Paolini, there is speculation that the contest may take place on a larger court, reflecting the high stakes of the encounter. Whether Andreeva has fully overcome her initial reservations about playing on hard courts and in prominent venues remains to be seen, but her aspirations and recent form suggest that she is well on her way to achieving great things in her career.
