Winning Wimbledon is the dream of every tennis player not only for the glory (that’s already a lot!), but also because of the prize money.
The organization has increased the prize money of 5%, and now the overall figure (£28.1million) is almost double what it was five years ago (£14.6m).
How much the pay?
The men’s and women’s singles champions will both earn £2millon (+6.4%) and (very important) the losers in the first round will pocket £30,000.
In doubles, the winners (men’s and women’s) will earn £350,000 (+3.1% on 2015); there is no increase for mixed doubles.
There is a sensible increase (221.5%) for wheelchair players.
