The Chengdu Open is set to return with great anticipation, marking its sixth edition at the Sichuan International Tennis Center from September 17-24, 2024. This ATP 250 event has established itself as a premier tennis tournament in China, now boasting an enhanced prize fund of $1,269,245, making it the richest 250-level tournament in the country.

Tournament Director Luiz Carvalho from IMG expressed excitement about the event, highlighting its goal to provide fans with a memorable and entertaining experience. The tournament will feature a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, showcasing a blend of international stars, local talent, and iconic figures from the tennis world.

Among the notable players confirmed to participate are World No. 7 Hubert Hurkacz, who will be competing in Chengdu for the first time. Hurkacz, a Polish tennis sensation, has enjoyed considerable success in China over the years, making him a popular figure among the local fans.

Italian star Lorenzo Musetti, currently ranked 18th in the world, is another exciting addition to the tournament. Musetti, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and Stuttgart this year, returns to Chengdu after a successful run to the semifinals in the previous edition.

French tennis veteran Gael Monfils, known for his flamboyant playing style, will also be making a much-anticipated return to Chengdu, having last competed in the event in 2018. Monfils, now 37 years old, continues to compete at a high level, with three semifinal appearances already in 2024.

The tournament will also feature one of China’s rising stars, Shang Juncheng, affectionately known as Jerry on the international tennis circuit. The 19-year-old lefthander has made significant strides this year, including semifinal appearances in Atlanta and Hong Kong, propelling him to a career-best ranking of No. 73.

In addition to world-class tennis, the Chengdu Open will engage the local community with interactive activities, including opportunities for families to experience live matches, young fans to serve as ‘Little Ball Kids,’ and various public events allowing spectators to meet their favorite tennis stars.
