Rafael Nadal is officially back!
The King of Clay wins his 9th title in Barcelona, the 69th of his career, the 49th on clay (best of all times with Vilas).
The final against Nishikori was extremely complicated; Rafa squandered a 1 break up lead in both sets (he was leading 3-1 in the 1st and 4-1 in the 2nd), but eventually he found the solution to win 6-4 7-5 after 2 hours and 4 minutes.
Nadal. I played well in the important moments
Rafa commented “It was a very close match. There were a lot of chances for both of us but I think I have been solid. When you play against players with such a high level, the match is often decided by a few moments. So I feel happy that I handled all these important moments well mentally.”
Nadal has now won 3 tournaments 9 times (Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, and the Roland Garros).
