Bencic beats Anisimova to advance in the semifinals of the Mallorca Open

Bencic advances to the semis

Belinda Bencic and Amanda Anisimova faced each other in the quarterfinals of the Mallorca Open.

The Match

In the 1st set both the players traded breaks but Bencic took full control of the set later on.

In the second set, Anisimova managed to break in the 4th game but the Swiss bounced back to claim the next four games to clinch the match.

One of the big reasons for the loss of the American was her double faults. She committed 8 double faults overall. Her movement was also slow and seemed that she was experiencing some pain as her right thigh was heavily taped.

Bencic won the match 6-2, 6-2 in 1 hour and 2 minutes.

Bencic hit 19 winners an 11 unforced errors and converted 6 of the 11 break point she got. On the other hand, Anisimova hit 17 winners but hit 26 unforced errors as well.

After the match, Bencic commented:

“I felt really good on my serve, I think it helped me a lot and she was difficult to play having won just two shots and was very happy to have stayed tough.”

Bencic will now play the winner of the match between Caroline Garcia and Angelique Kerber on Saturday.
