Goffin beats the home favourite Zverev to advance to the semifinals in Halle

Goffin advances in semis in Halle

The home favourite Alexander Zverev lost to David Goffin 6-3 1-6 6-7(3) in the quarterfinals in Halle.

One thing which surely didn’t go in favour of Zverev was his swollen knee which he suffered in the 1st round match.

Goffin seemed to be reaching closer to his best form in the match. The Belgian saved 7 of the 9 break points that he faced during the course of the match.

The Match

In the 1st set, Zverev looked flawless breaking Belgian’s serve in the 5th and the 9th game and winning it easily 6-3.

The second set was a complete opposite of the first set wherein the Belgian broke the German thrice. The 5th game of the set was the longest in the match when German tried his best to defend his serve unsuccessfully. The second set was won by Goffin 6-1.

In the 3rd set, the German saved two match points on his serve at 4-5. Goffin, however, was at his best and unrelenting. He won five of his service points and kept the pressure on the German to emerge triumphant in the end.

Zverev fired 14 aces in the match, but he was erratic on his serve which is explained by his 9 double faults in the match. This is for the first time that Goffin has won a match against the German.

Belgian won the match 6-3 1-6(3) 6-7 in 2 hours and 16 minutes.
