Six teammates from Sporting KC have made it possible for one of the fastest-growing sports in Europe to move to the Kansas City area.
Overland Park’s La Casa del Padel held its first meeting on August 10 in the morning. This was the first padel club in the Kansas City metro area. Padel is a sport that is growing quickly in Europe. It has just recently made its way to the Midwest.
The leaders said that the sport uses racquets and has roots in Mexico. People have said it’s like a mix of squash and tennis. Roger Espinoza, Andrew Fontas, Uri Rosell, Johnny Russell, Daniel Salloi, and Graham Zusi are six Sporting KC soccer players who have worked hard to make La Casa del Padel more than just a club. It’s their passion project come true.
“Padel” gave them a way to disconnect from the field, according to the founder, and they are now business partners. One of the club’s co-founders said that the main goal is to bring Kansas Citians together.
Salloi said, “This is one of those things where we’re bringing this sport here for the first time, the first club.” We also want to put money into the community, give back to it, and get more people to come visit, try this new activity, and meet new people through Padel.
Through the club, the squad can now show its teammates how the sport is being used and how popular it is becoming in Kansas City. It is in Overland Park at 6800 W. 91st St., near the corner of 91st and Metcalf Ave.
