Sports broadcaster Eurosport has apologized to Novak Djokovic for a mistake in a tweet on his victory at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

On Sunday, the Olympic gold medal match between the Serbian legend and Carlos Alcaraz lasted over three hours on Court Philippe-Chatrier, with the former winning both sets.

Playing in his sixth Olympics, Djokovic won his first gold medal and has since won every major tennis championship.

After Djokovic’s triumph, Eurosport unintentionally posted a social media celebration on the Serb’s behalf that included an emoji of the Croatian flag next to his name. After receiving criticism from Djokovic supporters and Serbians, Eurosport removed the post.

In a statement, the network apologised for the error: “We deeply regret the mistake that was made when choosing a flag emoticon to post on a social network and sincerely apologise. Once again, we congratulate Novak on a truly historic moment for him and his country.”
