Jannik Sinner withdraws from doubles at the Montreal Masters

Jannik Sinner

The Canadian weather continues to wreak havoc with the ATP Masters tournaments in Montreal, and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner has been forced to make a significant decision. The tournament has already seen high-profile withdrawals, including Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. Now, persistent rain associated with the remnants of post-cyclone Debby has further disrupted the event.

Sinner, the top seed, had hoped to play against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo, but the weather dashed those plans. In a wise move, he decided to pull out of the doubles competition, where he had been competing alongside Britain’s Jack Draper. The duo had secured impressive wins in their opening matches, but Sinner’s focus now shifts to winning the singles title.

Despite missing the Paris Olympics due to tonsillitis, Sinner showed no signs of lingering health issues in his opening match in Montreal, where he defeated Croatian Coric. As the weather forecast improves for the weekend, Sinner aims to defend his title and add another Masters 1000 trophy to his collection. However playing doubles would have meant competing in three different matches on Saturday. that will have been too much for the the Italian sensation.
