Due to health concerns, Sorana Cirstea has experienced extremely difficult times over the past six months. The Romanian has decided to have surgery to treat her plantar cystitis, which has significantly impeded her professional progress. Through her social media accounts, the athlete herself declared that while she is doing well, she will miss the remainder of the season.
After having surgery on her left foot, Cirstea has announced on social media that she will be out of operation for six months.
After making an effort to dominate the clay court season, Cirstea was ranked 29th going into Wimbledon. She defeated British qualifier Sonay Kartal in the final two sets but lost the first one handily.
Cirstea would have liked to get back to her winning ways at the US Open, where she defeated former Olympic champion Belinda Bencic and stunned Elena Rybakina in the third round last year.
She recently updated her fans and media and wrote: “It has been more than 6 months of dealing with severe pain in my foot. After trying everything possible without any result or improvement, my doctors and I have decided to proceed with the surgery. The good news is that everything went well. The bad news is that I will miss the rest of the season. I want to thank everyone for their support and I will see you in 2025.”
