After winning his debut, Jannik Sinner is the clear favourite at ATP Montreal 2024. The top-ranked Italian has had to get used to the Canadian tournament’s weather as well as a ball that is getting criticism in the locker room.
At a press conference, Sinner acknowledges that he doesn’t focus on other people’s performances, discusses the historic period in Italian tennis history, and details the changes he is making to his style of play.
Sinner explained at the Canadian tournament’s press conference: “It’s very difficult. It’s not easy to play here in these conditions. Sometimes there’s a bit of a breeze, the ball flies, so it’s hard to find a rhythm. Obviously, it’s the first time I’ve played on hard courts since Miami, so that’s something to consider. The first match is always tough. I was lucky to play a couple of doubles matches to regain that competitive feeling. I haven’t been told who lost or won. Right now, I focus on myself, on my game, and on what I need to improve. I think that’s the most important thing for me at the moment.”
He further talked about how he is gradually evolving his game: “I want to play as many matches as I can on this American tour, but for that, I need to enhance my service a bit. I’m trying to move the ball around. Today I tried some variations that didn’t work as I wanted, but I know that’s the right way, the correct path, to try to be more unpredictable on the court. I’m just trying to get better.”
