Alexander Zverev and Steve Johnson faced each other in the 2nd round of the Gerry Weber Open.
The world no.5 won his 25th match this season to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament in Halle.
The German beat the American 6-3 7-5 in 1 hour and 16 minutes.
The Match
In the first set, P1 broke his opponent’s service in the 7th and the 9th game to win the set 6-3.
In the second set, the world no.76 gave a tougher fight and both the players won their service games till the 10th game to equal at 5-5. The German got the break in the 12th game of the match to win the set 7-5.
Zverev, in total, earned 3 break points against Johnson, the German hit 27 winners in the match.
After the match Zverev commented:
“I am definitely happy with how things went, obviously my knee is still very swollen but the pain is much much less than it was a few days ago. I hope when the swelling goes out it will be much better.”
The German will now face the Belgian David Goffin in the quarterfinals.
