Alexander Zverev and Steve Johnson faced each other in the 2^nd round of the Gerry Weber Open.

The world no.5 won his 25^th match this season to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament in Halle.

The German beat the American 6-3 7-5 in 1 hour and 16 minutes.

The Match

In the first set, P1 broke his opponent’s service in the 7^th and the 9^th game to win the set 6-3.

In the second set, the world no.76 gave a tougher fight and both the players won their service games till the 10^th game to equal at 5-5. The German got the break in the 12^th game of the match to win the set 7-5.

Zverev, in total, earned 3 break points against Johnson, the German hit 27 winners in the match.

After the match Zverev commented:

“I am definitely happy with how things went, obviously my knee is still very swollen but the pain is much much less than it was a few days ago. I hope when the swelling goes out it will be much better.”

The German will now face the Belgian David Goffin in the quarterfinals.
