Anisimova beats Cornet in the 2nd round of the Mallorca Open

Amanda Anisimova and Alize Cornet faced each other in the 2^nd round of the Mallorca Open for the 1^st time in their career.

The Match

The world no.27 Anisimova started with a bang with 2 consecutive breaks on Cornet’s serve to lead 3-0. The 4^th game of the set was the toughest one for the American with some tough fight shown by the 56th ranked French. Anisimova, however, managed to survive the onslaught and lead 4-0. After this, the American won her next 2 service games to win the set 6-2.

The second set was a little tough for the American as the 56th ranked French showed some good fight back. The second set had longer games than the 1st set. Similar to the first set, Anisimova broke Cornet in the 1^st and the 3^rd game to lead 3-0. The French showed some grit in the 4th game of the set to break the American (3-1). Anisimova went on to win her service games in the rest of the set to win it by 6-4.

Anisimova won the match 6-2 6-4 in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
