Tech billionaire Elon Musk congratulated Novak Djokovic on winning the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The Serb needed two hours and fifty-one minutes to win the coveted gold to upset Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2).
The 37-year-old defeated Carlos Alcaraz, 21, to win gold and become the fifth player in Open Era history to complete the career Golden Slam, which entails winning all majors and the Olympic gold at least once. This made him the oldest player to ever make it to the final of the prestigious event in men’s singles. After achieving that feat, he entered the ranks of players like Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Andre Agassi, and Steffi Graf.
Djokovic wrote a touching message for his country, Serbia, on social media, expressing his delight at being able to represent his country at the pinnacle of international competitions. He also expressed his gratitude, saying that every one of his fellow countrymen shared in his gold medal victory.
Djokovic wrote on X: “I could never give up on the dream of winning this gold medal, just as the people of Serbia have never given up on me. Together, we believed in the impossible. While I may be the one holding this medal, I want every Serbian to know that it belongs to all of us. Representing our nation is the greatest honour in the world. This medal, these moments, this life—none of it would have been possible without your unwavering support. This is because of you. This is for you.”
Elon Musk replied: “Congratulations.”
Djokovic wrote: “Thank you, Elon.”
