Nadal wins complicated 1st round in Barcelona

Rafael Nadal had a rather tricky in draw in Barcelona to play an in-form Granollers in his opener. To make things even more complicated, the match was affected by strong wind.

In the beginning, Rafa had to battle hard after being broken in the very first game; after that, Rafa found his range to win 4 consecutive games and grab a decisive 4-1 lead that was essential for the Spaniard to win the opening set. In the second set, Gronollers’ level went dramatically down and eventually Rafa won the match 6-3 6-2 after 91 minutes.

Nadal. It was complicated

Rafa commented “Marcel started very strongly and broke me in the first game. It was a difficult match, very windy, which made his game tough to read. He took the initiative from the beginning. I am playing really well. It was a complicated first round against a player who had just reached the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo, beating three good rivals.”

Next. Vs. Montanes

Rafa will play world no.104 Albert Montanes in the 3rd round; the head to head is 3-0 for Rafa that has never struggled against his compatriot.
