Novak Djokovic is set for his first Olympic final, following a decisive 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lorenzo Musetti. This match came after Djokovic addressed concerns about his knee, which recently required surgery.

In an interview with Eurosport, Djokovic expressed his relief and excitement, saying, “It was such a tense match, a lot of emotions. So much expectation and stress coming into today’s match, particularly [trying] to secure a medal for my country.” He noted that this is his first Olympic final, a significant achievement given his past struggles in the semifinals.

Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in the final—a rematch of the recent Wimbledon final where Alcaraz won in straight sets. Djokovic acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, “We both are going to be very happy with a day off with no match tomorrow. He played a lot of matches with doubles and singles. Me, at this age, I’m really grateful to have a day off and recover my body and get ready for Sunday.”

Reflecting on his upcoming opponent, Djokovic mentioned, “That’s going to be the biggest challenge that I can have at the moment, playing him on this court. He won Roland-Garros a month ago on this court.” Despite the stakes, Djokovic feels a sense of freedom, adding, “I have nothing to lose as I’ve already secured a medal, so I’m going to go for it.”

Regardless of the final outcome, Djokovic has ensured at least a silver medal, marking his best Olympic result to date.
