Qinwen Zheng etched her name in history by winning China’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in singles tennis. Overcoming immense pressure and physical challenges, Zheng delivered a stunning performance to secure her place in the record books.

Reflecting on her historic victory, Zheng shared her emotional journey: “The last point I was really nervous. My hand was shaking actually. Every match when I go to the bathroom, my body is shaking. I never felt so hungry like this to win a match.”

Zheng’s path to gold was marked by a relentless drive and an unwavering commitment to her goal. She acknowledged the unpredictable nature of tennis, saying, “I could give everything I can, but I know tennis doesn’t work like this. It’s not like you give everything and get the results all the time.”

Her triumph was not just a physical achievement but a mental one as well. “I feel super proud of myself that this time I beat the pressure. I beat my own limit. I didn’t know before I was able to go through 5 matches in a row. Especially 7 hours in 2 days. I feel here in this tournament I broke through my limit,” Zheng revealed.

Zheng’s victory serves as an inspiration for her future endeavors. “In the future, it doesn’t matter how far down I am, I’ll remember this moment and it will cheer me up,” she concluded.

With this historic win, Qinwen Zheng has not only brought glory to her nation but also demonstrated the power of determination and resilience in the world of sports.
