For two international weeks, Gran Canaria will be decked out in flags from several nations. There, on the island, there will be FIP Promises Gran Canaria contests from August 9 to August 11, followed immediately by a FIP Star event.
The junior competition, which is part of the International Padel Federation’s calendar and is organized by the Canary Islands Padel Federation, will be held at the La Calzada club.
Two days after this tournament concludes, the curtain will rise once more to celebrate the FIP Star Gran Canaria, a competition that will award a total of 62 points for the FIP ranking and distribute 25,000 euros in prizes equally between men and women. The spectacle of the best international padel will not end here.
This time, the event will take place on the court that was set up in Plaza Alcalde Fernando Ortiz Wiot, formerly known as Plaza Churruca, with the La Calzada club serving as the backup location.
A competition that is also sponsored by Piz Buin and Neutrogena receives institutional backing from the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria, the Canary Islands Government through Promotur, and the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Spanish Federation of Padel
The tournament is a component of the Impulso program of the Spanish Padel Federation, which aims to develop young players and help them advance to elite competition. For this reason, in addition to the 25,000 euros in prize money awarded during the tournament, the top two male and female players in the junior division and the top three male and female players under 21 will each receive a 2,500 euro economic endowment.
The winners of the 2023 competition were Jairo Bautista from Malaga and Javier Martinez from Valladolid; Bea Caldera from Valladolid and Ana Catarina Nogueira from Portugal took first place in the women’s division.
