The public can now use Somerset’s first padel tennis courts. Brean Country Club has two brand-new outdoor courts where matches and training are held. Padel tennis is a popular racquet sport that was invented in Mexico and combines elements of tennis and squash.

This enclosed court, about one-third the size of a tennis court, is perfect for mixed-age and skill-level play. In addition to using the courts to learn and practice the sport, individuals can register to find a partner to play with at the club. Brean Leisure Park’s director, Sarah House, said:

“It was a bit of a punt but there aren’t any other public courts in Somerset, so we just thought, why not? You usually play it with four people whilst you can play it as singles, with two, but you get a lot more sort of atmosphere and fun when playing as doubles.”
