Swiatek explains her spat with Danielle Collins

American tennis player Danielle Collins argued bitterly with Iga Swiatek during their match in Paris, accusing her of dishonesty. Collins had an injury that forced her to retire from the Olympics when trailing the top-ranked player 4-1 in the third set.

Collins And Swiatek

In a contentious argument during their Paris match, American tennis player Danielle Collins accused Iga Swiatek of being deceptive. Collins had to withdraw from the Olympics due to an injury she sustained while trailing the world number one 4-1 in the third set.

But there were heated exchanges, and after the second set, Swiatek took a long break to use the bathroom.

Collins was reportedly irritated with the five-time Grand Slam champion for interfering with her serve rhythm. She was ready to serve since she was spotted protesting to the umpire.

Collins went over to Swiatek’s side of the net to see how she was doing after she fell to her knees and was covered by a ball in the midriff.

Swiatek explained after the match: “It’s better to ask her because honestly, I don’t know what happened there. Because it was quite strange. A rather unusual situation on the court for me. I don’t want to go into details because this is her last year on tour and I just want to wish her all the best. I didn’t have a chance to do it at that time. As she is ending her career, I know it must have been a hard moment for her as well. I just wish her all the best for the future.”

Swiatek added: “Generally speaking, during tournaments, when we go out and have time to change our clothes, we are entitled to 5 minutes. Here I asked the lady who escorted me how much time I had. She didn’t tell me that. She replied that they don’t count time here and that I should just leave when I feel like it. So I used this time to change and cool down, and then I returned to the court. I honestly didn’t know how much time had passed, but I didn’t do anything against the rules, so I don’t really know what the whole situation was about.”
