For all athletes, regardless of their sport, the Olympics are a unique occasion. Still, only a small number of competitors are able to participate in the event. America’s Frances Tiafoe expressed his dismay over the Paris Olympics yet he was still a little happy for his colleagues.

Tiafoe chose to focus on the American swing; thus, he decided not to go to the Olympics in Paris. Up until the Paris opening ceremony, Tiafoe didn’t feel awful about his choice. When asked if he was having trouble making his choice now that the Olympics were underway, American ATP player Tiafoe looked sad while at the Citi Open.

He expressed his thoughts about it recently and said: “Yeah, brutal, brutal. Brutal, yeah. It’s tough. More tough, just like seeing everybody on the boat and stuff like that. That was a tough day. I had to play later that day in Atlanta. I’m like, Yeah, I’m turning off every TV and social media. That would have been a cool experience.”

Tiafoe also revealed the reason behind his decision and said: “But actually being here in D.C. I understand what I’m trying to do and where I’m trying to peak. It’s great. Again, I’m young. I plan to be in L.A. I also had to look at my body. I’m still trying to get my knee 100%. To go grass, clay, and hard court again, I don’t think that would have been the smartest thing for me. But all the best to those guys. Hopefully, they’ll come back with medals.”

Tiafoe has been concentrating primarily on the US Open. He made the decision to put more strain on his knees by staying on the same surface.
