Tennis Canada announced on Monday that Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the ATP Canadian Open in Montreal, which takes place next week.

After defeating Rafael Nadal of Spain, the 24-time Grand Slam champion from Serbia advanced to the third round of the Olympics in Paris.

Although Djokovic has won 98 career ATP titles, he will not be participating in the US Open’s hardcourt practice match, which gets underway on August 26.

Tournament director Valerie Tetreault said: “While we’re disappointed that Novak will be unable to take part in this year’s tournament, we understand his decision and wish him the best at the Olympics and the remainder of his season.”

Due to the Olympics, the regular Monday-Sunday schedule in Montreal has been changed to Tuesday, August 6 for the main draw activity, and Monday, August 12 for completion.
