Bianca Andreescu has given an update regarding the injury that caused her to burst into tears during her 2024 Paris Olympics performance. Andreescu debuted at the Olympics this year.
In the opening round, Andreescu defeated Denmark’s Clara Tauson 6-2, 6-3 to begin her Olympic career strongly. Unfortunately, Donna Vekic of Croatia ended her run at the Games in the second round, defeating her 6-3, 6-4.
Early in the second set of the match, the Canadian sustained a thumb injury. She suffered severe pain after her left thumb was struck by her racket’s follow-through following a forehand stroke. Andreescu was observed crying in pain as she was in a medical timeout.
Andreescu took to social media to share an update on her thumb injury after the game. Although it was a frightening moment, she assured her fans that the injury was not serious. She also conveyed her gratitude and admiration for the flurry of well wishes she had received.
Andreescu revealed that she is keen to compete at the Canadian Open in 2024 and is focused on getting past the ailment. She posted on X: “Bit of a scare today with my thumb during my match bad news is that it happened when it happened. But the good news is that it’s nothing too serious! Now getting ready for @nbotoronto gotta move on and move forward! Thank you for all the nice messages. They mean a lot, especially during moments like this.”
