Tsitsipas Reacts After Losing Mixed Doubles With Sakkari At The Olympics

In a recent post-match interview, Maria Sakkari and her doubles partner discussed their challenging encounter against one of the top-ranked teams globally. The match, which highlighted their opponents’ superior chemistry and preparation, proved to be a difficult hurdle for the pair, who primarily focus on singles play.

“The team we played today is among the best in the world. I’ve played doubles with Wesley before, and he knows the game very well. Their chemistry worked much better,” Sakkari’s partner commented. “It seems they have worked hard, and I believe we could have prepared better. It wasn’t an easy match. I’ve observed them playing in mixed doubles. We are more singles players. We could have done a better job on returns, and I think that held us back a bit.”

Despite the loss, Sakkari remained optimistic and refrained from viewing the match as a missed opportunity. “I don’t think we made any major mistakes or played poorly. We faced the toughest pair in the draw. I don’t want to say it was a lost opportunity because that doesn’t do us justice. We are certainly two very good players, but I don’t like to say it was a missed chance.”

The Greek duo’s reflections underscore the challenges of competing against well-coordinated teams in doubles matches and highlight the importance of preparation and adaptability in such high-stakes encounters.
