Federer manages to get past Millman in the 1st round of the Halle Open

The Swiss gets past the Aussie in the Halle Open

Roger Federer faced John Millman in the 1st round of the Gerry Weber Open.

Roger Federer made a great start to the Halle Trophy with a win over John Millman 7-6(1) 6-3 in 1 hour and 17 minutes. This is the first match for Roger Federer on grass this season.

The 37-year-old Federer is seeking his third title of 2019, he has won in Dubai and Miami this year.

The Match

In the first set of the match both the players did well to not allow their opponents in service games and the match went to the tiebreaker. Millman made a crucial double-fault mistake in the tiebreak which allowed the top seed to run away with the first set 7-6(1).

In the second set, the Swiss was leading at 3-2. The champion player got a good break point in the 6th game of the match which he won to lead 4- 2, he defended his next service games to win the set 6-3.

Millman was doing well in the 2nd set as well till the 4th game but after that the world no.3 and 9 time Halle champion discovered the winning formula. The Swiss broke in the 6th game of the 2nd set to establish his supremacy in the match.

Federer won the match 7-6(1) 6-3 in 1 hour and 17 minutes.

It was supposed to be a tough match for Federer considering his opponent Aussie had defeated him in the US Open in the previous year. It indeed turned out to be one great competitive match in which the Swiss emerged the winner.
