Due to a hand injury, Olympic silver medalist Marketa Vondrousova has recently withdrawn from the 2024 Games in Paris. The Czech player made this decision after losing in the opening set of her Wimbledon title defence earlier in the month.
After winning silver at Tokyo 2020, Vondrousova announced on her Instagram account that she would not be competing at the Games this summer and would instead be concentrating on getting ready for the US Open, which starts on August 26.
Her replacement on the Czech squad will be Katerina Siniakova in the singles and Linda Noskova in the doubles.
She wrote on Instagram: “I am very sorry, but due to health reasons, I will not be participating in this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. I hoped until the last moment that I could go at least in doubles, but problems with my hand won’t allow me to play on the court. I’m focused now so that I can be okay at the US Open. I’ll keep my fingers away from all the Czech players in France. Hopefully, I’ll be back on the court soon.”

18, Vondrousova played her last match on the 2nd of July when she lost to world no.81 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4 6-2 in the 1st round in Wimbledon (draw).This season Marketa has managed to achieve a 16-11 win-loss record. Marketa Vondrousova’s most significant achievement of the year was reaching the semifinal in Stuttgart.
Marketa Vondrousova will square off with the world no.13 Ludmilla Samsonova in the quarter. Their current record is 2-1 for Vondrousova.
