Paula Badosa has recently spoken out against what she perceives as unfounded and disrespectful criticism of her relationship with fellow tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Spanish tennis star finds it both amusing and offensive when her performance in tournaments is linked to her relationship. Since their relationship began in May 2023, both Badosa and Tsitsipas have faced challenging periods. Badosa, in particular, has struggled with a chronic back issue that has affected her season. Tsitsipas, while winning the Monte Carlo Masters, has experienced a dip in his Grand Slam performance, leading to speculation that his relationship with Badosa has hindered his progress.
In response to these criticisms, Badosa expressed her surprise and frustration. “Criticism is never easy to deal with, although sometimes we find it funny because people don’t realize that we are two people who share the same passion. Sometimes, apart from separately, we also train together, so in the end we train as much or more than anyone else,” Badosa told La Vanguardia. She emphasized that their mutual dedication to tennis should dispel any notions of distraction, stating that critics do not understand the realities they are judging.
Badosa also highlighted the positive influence they have on each other. Tsitsipas has publicly acknowledged how Badosa pushes and motivates him to improve and achieve his goals. Despite their aspirations, their combined efforts have yet to translate into the success they envision, leading to further scrutiny from the public.
Badosa finds it particularly offensive when their personal relationship is blamed for their professional results. “Personally, what bothers me the most is that people talk about other people’s realities. I can understand criticism of my professional side, of my tennis, of whether I lose or win, but linking that to something personal seems disrespectful to me,” she noted.

By addressing these comments, Badosa aims to refocus attention on their commitment to the sport and to challenge the narrative that personal relationships negatively impact professional performance.

Now the world no.12, the Greek played his last match on the 20th of July when he lost to world no.50 Matteo Berrettini 7-6(6) 7-5 in the semifinal in Gstaad (draw).
Currently, during this year Tsitsipas has a 32-13 match record. This year, the Greek won 1 tournament in Monte-Carlo. The Greek was the finalist in Barcelona.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on the world no.555 John Isner in the Round Robin on Sunday at 6:00 pm on CENTER COURT. The head to head is 6-2 for Tsitsipas.
