Holger Rune took to Instagram to explain to his fans the reason for his mid-match retirement in Hamburg, revealing the significant impact of a knee injury sustained during his opening match at the tournament. On Friday, the No. 2 seed Rune was visibly struggling on the court. Fifth-seeded Arthur Fils took a comfortable 6-4, 4-1 lead in their Hamburg quarterfinal match. After losing the first set and falling behind by two breaks in the second, the 21-year-old Dane decided to retire from the match.

Rune expressed his regret to fans through his Instagram Story, saying, “So sorry guys. My knee had caused problems since the incident in the first match. Yesterday was bad. Today I tried but it wasn’t good.” This unfortunate withdrawal marks the end of his run at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg.
