Nick Kyrgios is (finally) rising fast! The young Australian defeated Milos Raonic 6-4 7-6 (4) in the quarters after a hard fought match. Things got immediately well for Kyrgios that broke Raonic in the very first game of the match to win the hold serve for the entire set and win the opener at 4. The second set went straight to the tiebreak with both players holding their serve. Finally it was Kyrgios to wrap up the match after 1 hour and 44 minutes.
Kyrgios. My return was the key
Nick thinks his return was key to win this match “I really learned how to return this year,” the Australian said. “That definitely set the tone early in the match, and helped me win the first set with that break in hand. That’s the major thing this year. I am giving myself so many more chances and getting so many more opportunities to take over matches.”
The semis vs. Nishikori
Nick will play Kei Nishikori in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-0 for the Japanese that has defeated Kyrgios 1-6 6-4 6-4 in Shanghai 2015. Talking about their latest encounter, Nick commented “When I played him in Shanghai I didn’t really do too much wrong. He just played a really well in the big moments. I definitely had chances. I know what my game plan is going to be. It’s going to be a tough match, but I’m looking forward to it. He’s a great guy.”
