After making the tournament’s entrance list, Rafael Nadal stated that he had no idea if he would participate in this year’s US Open.
By confirming that he will compete in the Laver Cup later this year, the tennis icon further disclosed that the 2024 Olympics in Paris will not be his final competition. This week, Nadal is competing in his first tournament in Bastad since his early-round exit from the French Open at the end of May.
In the past, the 22-time Grand Slam champion acknowledged that he would probably retire in 2024, but in more recent times, he has given himself the liberty to prolong his remarkable career.
In an interview with the media in Bastad, Nadal revealed he will decide whether to play in the US Open after the Olympics.
Nadal talked about it and said: “I needed to book (enter) to have the chance to decide after that, that’s as simple as that. Nothing changed for me. I’m going to decide what’s going on after the Olympics. By the way, I will be playing in the Laver Cup, but I am, to be clear and not create false expectations, I am not sure at all whether to be in New York or not. No decision today and the decision will not happen before the end of the Olympics.”
