Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Gilles Simon in the 2nd round of the Mercedes Cup. It was for the first time that the world no.21 faced Simon.
The Match
Felix broke Simon in the 3rd game of the first set to lead 2-1 but Simon broke back in the 8th game of the set to level at 4-4. The young Canadian again broke in the 11th game to lead 6-5. In the next game, the 18-year-old held on to his serve to win the set 7-5.
In the second set, Auger broke twice to win the set 6-4.
Felix won the match 7-5 6-4 in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
In the match the young man from Montreal relied heavily on his serve and fired 15 aces, Simon, on the other hand, could manage only 3 aces.
The 18-year-old Canadian will take on Germany’s Dustin Brown in the quarterfinals on Friday.
