Honest Djokovic says: “I’m not at the level of Alcaraz or Sinner”

Following his heartbreaking defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon men's singles final match, Novak Djokovic said he was not that good. Djokovic hasn't won a championship this year, and this is his poorest start to a season since 2006.

Djokovic Talks After Wimbledon

After suffering a crushing loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon men’s singles final match, Novak Djokovic declared he was not at that level.

In the SW19 main event, Alcaraz defeated Djokovic 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to earn his second consecutive victory against the 24-time Grand Slam champion, who appeared nearly helpless. It is Djokovic’s worst season start since 2006, and he has yet to win a championship this year.

In the Sunday final, Alcaraz outplayed the 37-year-old, producing booming forehand wins, heavy serves, and skilful drop drops. This outcome also signifies a shift in power in men’s tennis.

Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz have triumphed in each of the three Grand Slam events this year.

Djokovic expressed his remarks about Alcaraz and Sinner in the post-match press conference and said: “Being able to reach the final of Wimbledon gives a great confidence boost. But I also feel like in a matchup today against the best player in the world right now for sure, other than Jannik, both of them are the best this year by far. I feel like I’m not at that level.”

He added: “In order to really have a chance to beat these guys in the Grand Slam’s latter stages or the Olympics, I’m going to have to play much better than I did today and feel much better than I did today. It’s not something I haven’t experienced before in my life. In the face of adversity, normally I rise, learn, & get stronger. That’s what I’m going to do.”
