Zverev reaches the second round in Miami

Sascha Zverev advances in Miami after beating Michael Mmoh (also 18-year-old) in the 1st round. The first set went straight to the tie-break that the German won easily at 3 after grabbing a decisive 6-1 lead. In the second set, Sascha had to recover a 0-3 and 2 breaks down deficit to win the match with another breaker. The final result was 7-6 (3) 7-6 (4).

Zverev. The conditions are very different from Indian Wells…

The German commented “Today, with the changes in conditions compared to Indian Wells, it wasn’t easy to play the best tennis of my life. But I got through it and I’m happy to be in the second round. I always knew Michael is a great player. He has a huge serve and he knows the conditions perfectly since he practices here.”

… I can play at the same level of the top guys

The teenager shared his thoughts about his current level “I think everybody is paying more attention to the young guys now. The top guys are looking out. It’s nice to get the attention. [Losing to Nadal in Indian Wells] showed me that I can play at the same level as the top guys. Unfortunately, I didn’t win it, but that can happen against someone like Rafa.”

Zverev will face Steve Johnson in the 2nd round.

There is also good news from another couple of interesting prospects. Edmund edged Vesely in an epic 6-4 5-7 7-6 (6) while Fritz has won his first match at Master level against Bolelli (6-4 6-2).
