Sascha Zverev decided to accept a last minute’s wildcard to play the ATP250 in Stuttgart. This event in Germany is widely considered as a good preparation for the grass season, and many top players are happy to take part in it. Roger Federer loves playing in Stuttgart where he is currently the defending champion, but he is deserting the event this year after his deep run at the French Open where he reached the semifinal.
Why Zverev decided to play in Stuttgart
The German sensation had a below-par start of the season following some personal problems. Fortunately, the world no.5 is finding his way back by playing many tournaments and also for this reason, he decided to accept to compete in this ATP250.
Sascha commented
“These tournaments are very important. I play two tournaments in Germany, which I always love doing, which for me, on a personal level, is very, very important.
Stuttgart, I haven’t been here for a few years now, so this is why I have great motivation to do well and obviously also enjoy my time here. Halle is also a tournament that I always love.
So for me, of course you want to play your best tennis in the final of Wimbledon. But to do that you’ve got to play great before as well.”
Sascha will face Dustin Brown in the opening match for the first time in their career.
