Following his straight-set victory over Lorenzo Musetti, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz will square off in the Wimbledon 2024 final on Sunday, July 14. Djokovic is hoping that Alcaraz doesn’t begin his run of grand slam victories by defeating him.
After defeating Musetti, Djokovic commended Alcaraz for living a balanced life both on and off the court, calling him one of the best 21-year-olds in sports ever. In the future, the Serbian anticipates Alcaraz to be a consistent winner in the sport.
Djokovic expressed his remarks about Alcaraz and said: “He’s a great example of someone as a young player who has a well-balanced life. A good family has a lot of charisma and carries himself well on and off the court. He’s deservedly one of the greatest 21-year-olds we’ve ever seen in this sport. We’re going to see a lot of him in the future, no doubt. He’s going to win many more grand slams. Hopefully in 2 days, not this one.”
He further said: “But I’m in the future when I retire in about 15 years. Jokes aside, he already beat me in the final here last year in 5 sets. I don’t expect anything less than that. It was a huge battle on the court. He’s as complete of a player as they come. It’s going to take the best of my abilities overall to beat him on Sunday.”
