Svitolina In Tears In Wimbledon

In her on-court interview, Elina Svitolina acknowledged that she was playing for the greater good as she demonstrated remarkable tennis skills to advance to a third Wimbledon quarterfinal on Monday.

After reaching the semifinals in 2023 with an incredible victory over world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, Svitolina had just defeated Wang Xinyu, 6-2, 6-1, to make it to the All England Club for the second consecutive year. Wearing a black ribbon in remembrance of the most recent Russian attack on Ukraine, Svitolina made her way to the last eight.

Svitolina has been a vocal supporter of the Ukrainian people, who have endured an invasion by Belarus and Russia for more than two years.

After winning in the fourth round, the former world No. 3 was overcome with emotion and spoke out against the Russian missile attack that killed numerous people and damaged a children’s hospital in Kyiv.

Svitolina was crying during her on-court interview and said: “It was a good performance on my side today. It’s a very difficult day today for Ukrainian people.”
