After a run of strong performances that had raised expectations at the All England Club, Emma Raducanu says her encouraging Wimbledon run has given her motivation to keep improving for the remainder of the season. On Sunday, Raducanu lost to New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the fourth round.
However, Raducanu had a good look at the previous week after making it to a major fourth round for the first time since winning the US Open in 2021.
Raducanu talked about it recently and said: “I feel good about things going forward. I feel optimistic. As bitter as it is to take, I think [this defeat] happened for a reason. You don’t want things to happen too easily and too quickly. I had that before. I don’t necessarily want just a massive spike.”
She added: “I beat two top-10 players within 2 weeks, which is a pretty big deal for me. I think I have to take confidence from that. Six months before, when I was starting out after surgery, I would’ve signed for the 4th round at Wimbledon. Of course, I’m disappointed. Of course, I want more. Everything happens for a reason. It just fuels the fire and makes me more hungry.”
