Dominic Thiem and Serena Williams were part of a rather weird episode at the recent French Open.
The Austrian was booted out from the main press conference room to give space to Serena Williams that according to (false) reports didn’t want to wait after her 3rd round loss suffered at the hands of Sofia Kenin. The truth was quite different as the American legend asked to hold her press conference in a smaller room (probably she preferred that anyway), but the organization of the Roland Garros decided that she needed a bigger venue to accommodate the press.
Dominic didn’t get the right information to be upset with both the French Open and the Serena. However, later he learned the truth.
During a recent press conference, Dominic commented
“I feel a bit sorry for what happened. Maybe we can play mixed doubles in Wimbledon one day (joking). I want to make clear: What Serena achieved in her career is out of everyone’s imagination.”
That would be a nice one.
Thiem: “I want to make clear: What Serena achieved in her career is out of everyone’s imagination.” Then jokes: “I feel a bit sorry for what happened, maybe we can play mixed doubles in Wimbledon one day.”
