Federer explains why he is excited about the rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz

In an interview with ESPN, Federer stated his excitement for the matchup between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and the reigning Roland Garros champion Carlos Alcaraz, as well as the potential for both young stars to face Grand Slam leader Novak Djokovic at some point.

Alcaraz And Sinner Meet Again

Roger Federer expressed his excitement in an interview with ESPN about the competition between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and reigning Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, as well as the possibility for both young talents to play Grand Slam ruler Novak Djokovic yet.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner, who held the top spot in the global rankings for 310 weeks, believes that the sport changes every five years and he’s interested in watching where Alcaraz and Sinner take it as they continue to challenge Djokovic and one another.

Federer expressed his thoughts about it and said: “The guys are doing so well. Alcaraz at the French was fantastic. His win here last year was incredible against Novak in that fifth set. I’ve played Novak here. I know how tough he is to beat. For Carlos to do it at 20 years old was incredible. And Sinner, how his progression has been the last couple of years, I like it a lot. I see that continuing. Which is going to mean that both are going to meet each other hopefully so many times. It’s going to be a great rivalry.”

He added: “Every five years, you get another wave of players coming through. That’s why I think it’s wonderful for Rafa, Novak and Andy to still be playing on Tour because it gives the younger generation a chance to play against these players multiple times. Because if everyone retires at 30, we will not have that happen. Novak is so amazing that he’s bounced back. It was an incredible effort for him after the surgery to come back and play. It will be very interesting to see how he bounces back against his three-hour match yesterday.”
